Travel

FROM/TO THE AIRPORTS/ST ANDREWS

The most used airports to travel to St Andrews are Edinburgh (best choice), Glasgow International and Glasgow Prestwick (other options are Aberdeen and Dundee). Google maps is reliable to plan the journey from/to the airports, but you can also consult http://www.travelinescotland.com/ for planning and

https://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/about/visiting/travel/ for more information.

Below are the most usual ways to get from/to the airports/St Andrews:

– From Edinburgh airport: 747 bus (Stagecoach) from the airport to: 1) Ferrytoll Park&Ride, and then X59 bus (Stagecoach) to St Andrews; or to 2) Halbeath Park&Ride, and then X24 (Stagecoach) to St Andrews.

– From Glasgow International airport: 500 bus (First Glasgow) to Glasgow Buchanan bus station, and then X24 (Stagecoach) bus to St Andrews

– From Glasgow Prestwick airport: X77 bus (Stagecoach) to Glasgow Buchanan bus station and then the X24 (Stagecoach) to St Andrews

Travelling by bus is the cheapest option (note that tickets are bought on board – cash only). From all the three airports one can also take a bus to either Edinburgh or Glasgow city centre and then a train to Leuchars rail station (the closest station to St. Andrews). From there, there are frequent buses to St Andrews (a taxi costs around £15). From Edinburgh airport to Leuchars, another option is to take the airport tram from Edinburgh Airport to Edinburgh Gateway station, and then take a train to Leuchars. All trains should be booked in advance. For times and to book visit: https://www.scotrail.co.uk/

NOTE: There are fewer public transport connections to get to St Andrews on Sundays. If you are planning to arrive at one of the main airports on the evening/night of Sunday the 3rd, we recommend to plan your journey well in advance. There are various taxi companies that offer taxi-sharing deals. These can be as cheap as £15, but the cost can vary depending on the number of passengers. Places should be booked in advance. Davidson is a reliable company: http://www.davidsontaxitransfers.com/.
